Goddesses of destiny

oil on canvas 110 x 160 cm (44 x64 in.) 1999
This is a theme from ancient Greek mythology and philosophical judgement by the artist of the fragility of a life. There are three monumental figures carrying a semantic load in the center of this painting . This is goddesses of destiny, daughters of the Zevs and Themis. Clotho (on the right) spins a thread of life, while Lahesis (in the center) assigns destinies and Atropos (at the left) timely cuts a vital thread. Below on a raft there are people representing different eras and commonly united by the inevitability of the end. The raft with people and a sacrificial lamb is a symbol of fugacity of life.
