Several years ago I saw the movie “ThePassion of the Christ” by Mel Gibson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Passion_of_the_Christ). Some of the scenes left me impressed and disturbed.  At about that time I thought of creating a painting that would be dedicated to this biblical subject.  The work started on the 15th February, 2007.  The sketches and all the stages leading up to the painting can be viewed on this link http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=383677 on the wetcanvas forum .The painting shows a scene taking place just after the torture.  Christ is shown as a distant figure carrying the cross within the procession in the right top corner.  Maria , His Mother, appears in the centre of the painting.  She  holds  the sheet soaked with Christ’s blood at her lips, and Maria Magdalene is depicted laying on the ground.   Near them are several of Christ’s followers, and some crowd.  Bright divine light beams from the heavens onto the figure of Christ.  It also touches the face of Maria.
